Having worked as a school teacher, and for his family trucking business, he developed the leadership, business, and communication skills that would ensure success in real estate. He began his career with a full-service real estate firm specializing in real estate partnerships. Here he gained an understanding of the complexities of the real estate process, and developed an appreciation for the finer points of the business. Today, Tom is the broker/owner of Carter Braxton Real Estate Company in Leesburg, having established it in 1989. Carter Braxton specializes in land, residential, and commercial sales. The company also handles transactions involving tax-deferred exchanges, easement programs, and works with nonprofit organizations and other investment interests. Tom is the only broker in Loudoun County to hold the prestigious Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) certification. This designation is awarded by the REALTORS Land Institute (RLI) and the National Association of REALTORS (NAR), which is the largest trade organization in the world. As a land specialist, Tom is able to give his clients an even more valuable perspective on their real estate needs both in this area and around the nation. Tom also is a Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) which gives him entrée to world wide listing and sales of property. Tom has been an active member of key professional associations for years. The list includes The Dulles Area Association of REALTORS (DAAR), Virginia Association of REALTORS (VAR), NAR, and RLI. He has served as President, and subsequently, Past President of DAAR. He has served on VAR’s Professional Development Advisory Group, and, in 1999, was elected to VAR’s Policy Board. He is an active member of NAR’s General Assembly, and attends conferences and conventions. He was also elected in 1999 as President of the Virginia RLI, a first for Loudoun County and DAAR. Tom serves at present as the 2005 President of the Virginia Association of Realtors, Virginia’s largest trade association with over 36,000 members. In association with this position, he has traveled throughout the state, usually with members of the firm, visiting VAR members and forging business relationships both inside and outside the Realtor community. Tom is an eloquent speaker and has addressed scores of agents regarding his land specialty. His dedication and commitment to local community and civic affairs is widely recognized, and he speaks on often on issues regarding education and fund raising for charitable organizations.
